6 Secrets to Know About Disney Cruises

Disney Cruise Line is in a category of its own when it comes to family travel -- there's a reason it was named the Best Cruise Line for Families by Cruise Critic's editors.

From top-notch service, to activities for every member of the family (yes, even the adults), the line truly delivers incredible vacations. But what are some extra-special secrets to know?

1. You can order character bed sheets for your kids -- from Avengers and Cars, to a wide range of Disney Princesses -- all you have to do is call Guest Services before your cruise and ask (or you may luck out and have your cabin steward surprise you one night!).

2. You can schedule character calls to your stateroom. Does your child love Star Wars, Marvel, or the Disney Princesses? In addition to the pre-recorded calls from characters wishing you a bon voyage, you can also schedule a birthday wake-up call from a character, who will wish you a happy birthday and a good day on your sailing.

3. The line can cater to a wide range of allergies. You can fill out a form in advance to notify the line that you’re traveling with a passenger with peanut or tree nut, gluten, egg, fish or shellfish, dairy, or soy allergies, or other special dietary needs. In addition, if you — or a little one — suffer from allergies to detergents with fragrances or colors the line can accommodate that as well.

4. You can have complimentary baby gear delivered to your room. Sure, you expect complimentary Pack-n-Play portable cribs in cabins and high chairs in restaurants. But Disney will also deliver complimentary diaper disposal units, as well as bottle sterilizers and warmers. Complimentary strollers are available at Guest Services.

5. Kids can offer off-menu items in the dining room. Regardless of the options on the menu that evening, you can always order any of the kid-friendly items you have seen offered, from chicken fingers to cheeseburgers, French fries, and grilled cheese sandwiches. You can also ask for Mickey Mouse-head shaped vanilla ice cream bars that are coated in a chocolate shell in all of the main dining rooms at dinnertime.

6. Room service is free 24/7. The menu is on the app, and all you have to do is dial 40 from your cabin phone to order. You can request breakfast delivery the night before or order late-night chicken fingers to your room for a kid who wasn’t hungry at dinnertime. And the menu isn’t just kid and bar food like burger, fries, and chicken wings — though they have all of those things — it also includes other items like grilled salmon or Turkish flatbreads.
