Also known as “The City of Trees,” Boise is every outdoor enthusiast’s dream and probably one of the most underrated places to visit in the US. There is no shortage of adventures to be found here. It’s the perfect gateway for nature lovers, whether you enjoy kayaking, fishing, biking, hiking, camping, or boating. Parks in Boise

1.   Kathryn Albertson Park

Kathryn Albertson Park is located near downtown Boise. It is a 41-acre special-use park. It’s a haven for quiet contemplation. The park has a beautiful natural setting that features outdoor gazebos and wide paved footpaths.

Because it is home to wildlife, wading, swimming, boating, and fishing are prohibited. Dogs are also required to be kept on a leash.

When you visit the park, you’re bound to see raccoons, red foxes, and many varieties of birds. Early morning or evening are the best times to visit.

2.   Julia Davis Park

The oldest park in Boise, Julia Davis Park can make even a 100-plus degree day quite pleasant. It’s an ideal place to enjoy the outdoors in the midst of an urban setting.

The park is home to the Idaho Black History Museum, the Discovery Center of Idaho, the Idaho State Historical Museum, the Boise Art Museum and Zoo Boise.

The park abuts the Boise River Greenbelt. You’ll definitely find it energizing if you love biking, walking and running. The park is also home to a beautiful extensive rose garden that dates back to 1939.

3.   Camel’s Back Park

This park has something for everyone. You can go for a hike, toss a Frisbee, or read a book on the large grassy area or simply take a nap. There are also various forms of activities for the kids.

Camping Spots

1.   Bruneau Dunes and Dunes Lake

Bruneau Dunes State Park is located south of Mountain Home. It features two small lakes, and several large sand dunes. It’s a great place to take a camp trailer or an RV and set up camp while enjoying the sand dunes of Idaho.

Bruneau Dunes is also home to Dunes Lake and offers several activities that you can do. These include hiking, bird watching, swimming, and fishing. You can rent a sandboard or just simply look at the stars at night.

Wildlife includes coyotes, kestrels, geese, scorpions, herons, and hawks.

2.   Garden Valley

Located in the Boise National Forest, Garden Valley is also a fantastic camping destination.

Recreational Areas

1.   Lake Lowell

Nature lovers will certainly love it here. It’s located near Nampa, Idaho. It opened its gates in 1909 and is home to a variety of wildlife species. To date, 200 bird species have been recorded here.

Lake Lowell offers fishing, swimming, and boating throughout the summer and spring. If you need some time off the water, visit the Lower Dam Recreational Area and Lake Lowell Park.

2.   Arrowrock Reservoir

Arrowrock Reservoir is located on the border between Elmore County and Boise County. It offers breathtaking views of rock formations and features sixty miles of shoreline.

Come prepared with fishing gear, as fishing is a must here. It boasts of small mouth bass, rainbow trout, Chinook salmon, perch, sockeye salmon, cutthroat trout, whitefish and bull trout.

3.   Lucky Peak

Lucky Peak is located on the Boise River in Ada County, Idaho. It’s one of the city’s most popular camping and boating areas. It has easy boat access and its cool waters make it perfect for fun water sport activities.

The water sport activities to do here include tubing, wake surfing, water skiing, wake boarding and more.

You can also go fishing in Lucky Peak. There’s an abundance of bull trout, cutthroat trout, and rainbow trout.

There are also countless tent and boat camping sites along the reservoir’s banks. However, camping at Lucky Peak is limited if you’re bringing in an RV.

4.   Bogus Basin Mountain Recreation Area

This is where fun and thrill can be had all year round. During winter, the famed resort is a haven for all sort of snow and ski activities. During summer, the resort becomes a site ideal for fishing, river rafting, golfing, camping, and hiking.

There is a variety of terrain to suit everyone. You can ski just about everywhere on the mountain. The off-trail skiing is phenomenal and impressive. The resort also provides lodging, entertainment, and food.
