Fall is here, and you’re probably itching to explore the world in your off-roading vehicle. If you’re putting together a vacation plan in Denver, there are several must-see destinations you’ll want to add to your itinerary. Just make sure all vehicles in your group have been properly outfitted with suspension kits, so you don’t end up stranded. Here are a few of the top off-road things to do in Denver this fall season.

Colorado State Forest Park

If you want the most breathtaking off-road experience, you’ll want to take some time to drive through Colorado State Forest Park. You may have seen this park from the regular road, but there are rough routes through certain areas of the park that can only be navigated by vehicles properly equipped with suspension kits and large wheels and tires. If your vehicle doesn’t currently fit that description, you can visit an off-road shop in Denver and get it properly equipped.

lpine Loop Scenic Byway

Sprawling through the Rocky Mountains, the Alpine Loop Scenic Byway offers plenty of opportunities for getting off the regular path. It offers incredible views of Wetterhorn and Uncompahgre Peaks and meanders past several ghost towns. You’ll need a four-wheel-drive vehicle that has sufficient clearance to navigate the rough terrain.

Stillwater Pass

Looking for an adventure that’s marked by some of the most gorgeous sights Colorado has to offer? You need to explore Still-water Pass in the fall. The back-trail drive stretches across 46 miles of wilderness marked by lakes and mountain peaks. Many people go here to hike, fish, and challenge the terrain. Some spots are tame enough for beginning off-roaders, but other areas are definitely beyond the nerves of the faint-of-heart.

Slaughterhouse Gulch

This challenging trail requires only about three hours of your time to make the entire round trip. It is, however, one of the most notable and favorite off-road spots in the area. It allows you to avoid the busy I-70 highway and is also known as the Crow Creek Loop. Some of the trails are very narrow and difficult to traverse, so only 4-wheel vehicles are recommended. Find some great off-roading wheel and tire packages before you head out on this trip.

Baldwin Gulch Jeep Road

Any road with the name “Jeep” in it is bound to be fun, and this one is no exception. Very hardy vehicles (and drivers) can usually make it to the uppermost part of the mountain and enjoy the scenery. Featured on reality television shows, this thrill-seeker’s road can give you the rush you crave. There are many trail networks to explore, so you don’t need to worry about getting bored.

Mosquito Pass

This pass is not for wimps, that’s for certain. It tops out at 13,185 feet and is marked by dangerous rock obstructions, steep drop-offs, and creeks that must be crossed by a vehicle capable of handling the challenge. It’s only passable for a few months out of the year.

These trails and roads will certainly help you practice your off-roading game. Enjoy them in the fall, when the leaves are changing and the scenery is breathtaking.
