There are so many amazing museums in the state of Idaho that we can’t mention them all today. Idaho offers botanical museums, historical museums, and interactive museums. But it also has a great selection of art museums as well. 

If you only have time to visit two museums then you should make time to attend these two. 

The Art Museum of Eastern Idaho, Idaho Falls 

Would you believe us if we told you there was a world-class museum in Idaho Falls that will cost you under $5 per person to get in? Well, it’s true and we are talking about The Art Museum of Eastern Idaho. 

They have 4 permanent exhibits, an interactive art exhibit for children, and at least one space for touring exhibits. This museum sits at the heart of a bustling artistic community. They regularly host classes, local exhibits, and even have poetry nights where everyone is welcome. 

If you love the arts – don’t miss this location. 

Museum of Idaho, Idaho Falls 

This museum offers a little bit of everything – so it is a great place to take a family that has varied interests. They have art, history, music, and more. 

However, our favorite thing about the Museum of Idaho is the touring art exhibits that they have come to visit. While the Museum may be on the smaller side, it has an incredible reputation and therefore some really high-quality exhibits that you won’t see in this part of the world very often.

To Visit Outside 

We mentioned at the beginning of this article that Idaho is more than just natural beauty. However, there are a few museums that really make the most of this local beauty and combine it with history and preservation. 

These are two must-visit locations. 

Craters of the Moon National Monument, Arco

Sadly, the Craters of the Moon National Monument does not include a free trip to the actual moon – but it does offer a truly unique experience. 

The monument was formed by an ocean of lava that shaped the land in the area. The lava field is actually still alive and there is a lot of volcanic activity in the area. In the cooler areas of the park, it is hard not to feel like you are on a lunar adventure. 

Spread around the park are areas of natural wonders – little spots where nature is thriving despite the arid environment that surrounds it. 

Japanese Pavilion, Idaho Falls 

If you are a fan of plants and botany then you cannot skip over the Japanese Pavilion in Idaho Falls. The whole area is inspired by Japanese culture and their gardening style. The areas feature a rock garden, dragon path, numerous sculptures, and rentable deck space. There are also some truly breathtaking water features and views throughout the garden. 

The space was built as a celebration of the 30th anniversary of Idaho Falls twinning with the city of Tokai-Mura in Japan. 

The Japanese Friendship Garden can be found within the Pavilion. This is a small garden that is located on a rocky island in the Snake River.
