Swedish Surströmming is ILLEGAL to open indoors or in public spaces. It's expected for you to ask permission from your neighbors even when opening it outdoors! It's even banned by airlines in fear it would explode at altitude... So now I'm going to put the smell to the ultimate test, the TASTE test!
Besides the terrible flavor, it was an amazing opportunity to visit a traditional Swedish Surströmming factory and see how the locals really eat it instead of only eating it straight out of the can!
